New Fancy Weight Loss Meds vs Eating Disorders

I am in recovery from my eating disorder but that doesn’t mean that I don’t still struggle at times.

I excel at not eating when I want to. It really is a skill. I also am sadly very good at throwing up. Both of which I know are bad for my body and I work everyday to EAT, sometimes this is still hard, eat foods I know are good for me.

I am fat. I’m not saying this as an insult. It’s a fact. I take a lot of medications that cause weight gain and I come from a family of big people.

I am working hard to accept my body how it is even if society does not.

Things were getting better for a while with the body positive and body neutral movement and fat people speaking out but with the latest craze for weight loss drugs I feel like we are taking a huge step backwards.

Suddenly, don’t be fat - there is a cure for that!

So, of course, I looked into these drugs. You lose weight because you have no appetite and if you do eat more than you should the medication causes you to vomit or have diarrhea. This sounds EXACTLY like how eating disorders work except you don’t need to take an expensive med, I could just do it.

But my eating disorder was unhealthy and damaged my body. Yet, doctors are praising this drug for doing the same thing.

I find this all VERY UPSETTING.

Should I try one these weight loss drugs and lose the weight? The doctors say it’s good but my eating disorder was bad, it’s just so conflicting.

And definitely hampering my work to be okay.

My husband took this drug for his diabetes and it played havoc on his body! I couldn’t believe it when I saw it being advertised as a diet plan. We, as a society, need to realize not all people come in a standard size. And that’s ok!!
